Description
Extremely tough program to find is this 1906 Highlander home program for the July 14th
contest against the visiting Chicago White Sox who would win just the 3
rd
World Series this year against the Chicago Cubs.
This neatly scored program features 2 of the best pitchers of this decade – Jack Chesbro of the Highlanders and Ed Walsh of the White Sox.
Nick Altrock started for the White Sox but after being knocked around in the second was replaced by White Sox ace Walsh.
Chesbro would start the game for the Highlanders but leave after 5 innings.
Going into the top of the 9
th
the Highlanders were ahead 7 to 5 – just 3 outs from a victory.
However the White Sox rallied for 3 runs to take the lead 8 to 7.
New York answered back scoring two runs giving them a walk-off win.
The front and back cover have neatly separated from the rest of the program.
Other pages still attached and staples intact.
There are two small spots of surface loss to the back cover near the spine where it appears the program was removed from a scrapbook page which has preserved the rest of the program very nicely.
Only other notable condition issue is a small tear at top border of the first page.
Score, teams and date neatly written in pencil on the front cover.
A significant and rare program missing in even the most advanced Yankee collections.
