Description
Featured here is a rare original program roster insert page for an exhibition game played April 9, 1960 at John Euless Park in Fresno between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers just three days prior to the first game played at Candlestick Park.During the 1960's, the Giants and Dodgers wrapped up Spring Training by barnstorming through California's Central Valley. This was the Spring's penultimate game before the final exhibition played in Sacramento the following day. While the score of the game is unknown, I have a press photo that shows the Legendary Willie Mays being congratulated by fellow HOF Slugger Willie McCovey after hitting a home run, while Dodgers Catcher John Roseboro watches. The Fresno Giants, who played at Euless, were in their third of 30 consecutive seasons affiliated with San Francisco in the Class A California League; the longest minor-league affiliation in history.
Great piece of Giants, Dodgers, and Cal League history!
